Ask the Father

Ask the Father

Any child who knows that his father loves him wouldn’t be shy about going to him to ask for something he needs. And if that child is old enough to comprehend such things, he will understand that if his father says no to a request, it’s for the child’s own good.

Jesus explained to His disciples that the work He was about to do would make a new relationship with His heavenly Father possible. The disciples had obviously prayed to God before — and had even asked Jesus to teach them how to pray — but up until this point they hadn’t approached God through Jesus. After His work on the cross, they would have direct access to the Fa-ther through Christ as their Mediator.

The outcome for the disciples is that they would be able to ask God for the kinds of things that would ren-der their spiritual joy complete, such as souls being saved. Do we seek the kind of things in prayer that are in keeping with God’s will? If so, true joy will be the result. an Open Windows devotion
